Reading

It starts like a novel, but the writing confused me. Some parts fall flat, and some emotions are written rather than expressed. The language felt cold, and the statistics keep arriving as if we are being told how things are instead of being made to feel them. And then it turns. By the end, it is one of the finest pieces of fiction I have read. A bold, risky craft, and I’m glad it worked.
