Hermann Gundert’s handwritten notes contained glyphs of Vattezhuthu, an ancient script with almost no digital presence. The question was how to bring those glyphs into a website without adding them as static images. The answer was to convert them into a font using Unicode’s Private Use Area, which meant the glyphs could behave like text rather than sit as assets on the page.
Indrajith did the work of going through the notes glyph by glyph, converting centuries-old handwritten marks into clean vectors and then into a font. Every decision about a stroke or curve had to be made with almost no room for interpretation, given what the source material was.
