Better thinking over better note-taking

The goal of a thinking system is not to capture more. It is to think better. Notes are useful because writing forces clarity and the archive gives you material to return to, but the notes themselves are not the product. The thinking is. A narrow note is easier to revise, contradict, and reuse because it doesn’t drag a whole topic behind it.

The test is whether the note helps you think again later. Notes grow in value when written to evolve only when you return to them, not when you file them.
