Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, 2014 : Just another one time watchable romcom from Dharma Productions. The movie is trying to sell “DDLJ is a Cult” and the formula works at some points. Varun Dhawan did better than his previous movies and Alia made movie entertaining, while the role was kind of stereotype. Watch if you are ‘that’ crazy about DDLJ and Rom-coms
2 States , 2014 : Someone draws inspirations from B’wood cliches and make it into a book and book later become a movie. A typical rom com with exaggerated culture based humour, the movie is bright, colourful and entertains. While hero and heroine did their roles neatly Alia Bhatt misses the ‘Tamilian’ touch, so does her dressing. Pros, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music and two mothers – Amrita Singh and Revathy. The charm, subtle expressions and controlled performance made even the cliché-st incidents watchable. PS : Big hugs to Karan Johar for not writing his movie threads as novel.
Highway, 2014 : A Bliss. The visuals are stunning, the music is “real” and sounds are fine tuned by silence. The cute, amazingly performing heroine and naturally performing hero along with a dozen random great actors in supporting roles makes the movie a true, from the heart, feel good movie with a bit dramatic climax.
Special mention to the awesome performance of Alia Bhatt, who did a brilliant performance, which could be considered as an amend to all sins Bhatt family did with shitty crappy movies. And hats off to Imtiaz Ali, who showed the courage to go one step deeper to human relations and a dozen step away from usual Hindi flick thoughts. And finally A.R. Rahman, Resul Pookutty you both again proved how magical the sounds are!
